UC San Diego Volleyball Falls to UC Davis in Four Sets

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The UC San Diego women’s volleyball team found themselves on the losing end of a four-set match against UC Davis on Saturday evening. The Tritons dropped the match by set scores of 18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 13-25, moving to a 6-22 record (4-12 Big West).
The Aggies, now 18-6 (14-2 Big West), dominated despite a valiant effort from the Triton lead scorers. Katie Rapp led the home team with an impressive 14 kills, while Ireland McNees added 11 of her own.
How the Match Unfolded
The opening set was a see-saw battle, with neither team able to pull away until UC Davis scored six straight points midway through, leading to an eventual 25-18 triumph.
The second set was similarly close, but the Aggies were able to hold on late, winning 25-21 despite a late Triton rally.
UC San Diego found their rhythm in the third set, sparked by a four-point swing led by Jasmine Saran‘s kill and a late surge finished off by Katie Rapp‘s kill, securing a 25-20 victory.
The final set, however, belonged to UC Davis. Despite a few Triton highlights, the Aggies closed out the match on a five-point run, winning 25-13.
Triton Tidbits
- Mika Rome recorded a double-double with 35 assists and a team-best three aces.
- Ireland McNees and Mina Olgar each contributed two aces.
- Paulina Baillie and Mika Rome led the team in digs with 14 each.
Up Next
The Tritons will look to bounce back when they take on Long Beach State at the RIMAC Arena in what will also be Senior Night. The match is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 PM.
