Trabzonspor forward Tres Tinkle is making waves in the Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi. The 29-year-traditional American player, born in Missoula, Montana, attributes his passion for the game to a family deeply rooted in basketball.

“Basketball has always been a part of our family. Not only my father, but also my mother and two sisters were basketball players. Since I was the youngest in the family, I grew up in the gyms, constantly watching matches. I fell in love with this game at a very young age and never let go.”

Tinkle’s high school career at Hellgate High School was decorated with accolades, including First Team All-State honors for four consecutive years and being named Gatorade Montana Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year in both 2014 and 2015. He finished his high school career with a school-record 1,580 points.

Transitioning to professional basketball after a successful college career at Oregon State, Tinkle credits his father with instilling a crucial mindset.

“My father had a huge impact on this process. The most essential thing I learned from him was that this is a business now and it is necessary to maintain professionalism at all times. Things may not go the way you want, but if you keep working, it will pay off in the end.”

Tinkle describes himself as a versatile player capable of adapting to different roles. He primarily played as a small forward in college but has transitioned to both small forward and power forward positions professionally.

“I can best describe myself as a ‘real basketball player’. I read the game well and can adapt to any role. I mostly played number 3 in university, and in my professional career I shifted to number 4. I can contribute in both positions.”

Tinkle expressed his enthusiasm for joining Trabzonspor, citing the club’s clear vision as a key factor in his decision.

“I know how strong the Turkish League is. In our meetings with the coach, I saw that Trabzonspor’s goals were clear. Everyone had the same vision, which impressed me.”
