The town of Gonfreville-l’Orcher near Le Havre is in shock following the tragic news of Cédric Tureau’s passing. Cédric Tureau, the esteemed head of the city’s sports department, was found deceased on the morning of Sunday, November 19, 2023.

The day before his untimely demise, the 53-year-old had been participating in a kayaking training session, an activity he was passionate about.

Investigation Underway

The circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident remain unknown at this time. A thorough police investigation has been initiated to determine the details. The victim’s wife, concerned by his absence, contacted the authorities.

Meanwhile, the entire community mourns the loss of “a grounded man, a compassionate listener, and a fervent advocate for sports and public service,” as described by Gonfreville-l’Orcher’s mayor, Alban Bruneau.

A Tribute to a Local Hero

Cédric Tureau was a true Gonfrevillais, having grown up in this town of 9,000 residents. He not only served as the head of the sports department but also held the position of president in the local kayak club and was an active trade unionist within the UNSA.

A heartfelt tribute was paid to him during the opening of the municipal council meeting on Monday, November 20, 2023.
