Fleetwood Remains Focused on Golf Despite Family’s Presence in Dubai

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL – Tommy Fleetwood is determined to maintain his focus on golf as his family remains in Dubai amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The Englishman is competing at The Players Championship, but his thoughts are also with his wife and children.

Family Safety Paramount

Fleetwood addressed the situation, stating My wife and children* are still in Dubai at the moment. Yes, it’s been a strange time. My family is safe. I feel the UAE has done an incredible job of making everyone feel very safe. You know, they’re supposed to be able to travel soon, but the main thing is that they’re safe.”

Despite the circumstances, Fleetwood is refusing to use the situation as an excuse, emphasizing the importance of mental fortitude and consistency in his game.

Maintaining a Consistent Mindset

If we know we’re doing the right things, then good things will eventually happen.

Fleetwood acknowledged a desire for more consistent performance this season, but remains optimistic. I would like to play a little more consistently, but I still think there have been a lot of good things and I can’t wait to gain into the process, prepare for this week and be in the best possible condition on Thursday,” he said.

He draws on past experiences, noting the importance of continuing to work and train diligently. I’m definitely going to have worse weeks in my career than the one I finished 49th at Bay Hill. I know it. But no, I think, once again, that you have to strive to work, to train so that your game is very consistent. And then I think recently when I had a bad week, my game improved and I played well the following week, Fleetwood explained.

He added, You just have to know that you always feel better when you know you’re doing the right things and working on the right aspects of your game, and that it takes two, three weeks, four weeks, two months for that to bear fruit, for it to give good results. Given that often, we don’t immediately obtain the expected results when we do a good job. But I think if you know you’re doing the right things, then eventually good things will happen. That’s kind of my mindset.”

Just because I won once doesn’t mean I’ll never win a tournament again.

Fleetwood is focused on building on past successes and maintaining a positive outlook. If you can bounce right back and have a great week, that’s great. But every week is always a fresh start, and whether you won last week or finished last, everyone starts over on Monday and everyone starts tied again on Thursday, and you have the opportunity to have the best week of the year, or whatever. We must therefore always try to approach the following week with a good state of mind.”

He concluded, I don’t know how many years it took me to win, but I think it kind of prepares you to handle the next period well. Just because I won once doesn’t mean I’ll never win a tournament again. I don’t know. I think I’ll win (laughs). I hope to win a lot. But I’m not too worried about that. I just continue to focus on being the best golfer I can be and whatever my result is today, I try to do better tomorrow.”
