After losing to the same Danish pair in the first round of the Malaysian Open, Gicquel and Delrue, both aged 27, struck back with a convincing win in Tuesday’s matchup. The French duo had gone 0-3 against Toft and Magelund but proved their mettle on Indian soil.

On Thursday, Gicquel and Delrue will face Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa and Nami Matsuyama. Midorikawa is world No. 7 in mixed doubles but partnering with Natsu Saito, while Matsuyama is world No. 12 with Chiharu Shida in women’s doubles. The Japanese pair has faced the French duo four times before, winning twice, including their most recent encounter in the China Finals in December.
