India coach Gautam Gambhir has been looking for a part-time bowler ever since taking charge. To that end, he bowled Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. Now Rohit Sharma has joined that list. Rohit bowled in the second ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday. He remains wicketless with 11 runs in 2 overs.
However, Rohit is not new to bowling. He last bowled against Netherlands in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Not only that, he also has the record of bowling a hat-trick in IPL. He was a very effective bowler a decade ago. But due to shoulder injury, he did not bowl regularly.
He has taken 9 wickets by bowling 10.14 overs in 40 innings so far in ODIs. Economy 5.24. Strike rate 67.67. Average 59.22. Best bowling figure is 2 wickets for 27 runs.
