Two major retail brands will no longer sell strawberries or cherries in December and January. A move aimed at promoting local and seasonal production.
The month of November has only just begun, but the supermarket shelves are already filled with toys, chocolates and Christmas decorations. Others may be in the stage of preparing their holiday menus. Oysters, capon, foie gras… Desserts are of course available, with their aromas of chocolate, vanilla or fruit. Those who want to opt for a red fruit dessert, however, should choose their brand carefully. During the holidays, it is actually impossible to find strawberries and cherries in some supermarkets. The Les Mousquetaires group, which combines Intermarché and Netto, announced the end of sales of these products in December and January.
In favor of French producers
The group made this statement in X by publishing eight commitments “to support the French farm”. Among them: “promote seasonal fruits and vegetables produced in France with additional promotions to encourage customers to change their behavior, (…)
