The Paduan was 97 years old: he made three stages in the Giro d’Italia and 2 in the Tour, he was third in the Lombardia 1952

Arrigo Padovan passed away at the age of 97: he was born in the province of Padua, in Castelbaldo, on 16 June 1927. During his 13 seasons as a professional, especially in the 1950s, he stood out as an excellent sprinter. Among the most important successes were three stages at the Giro d’Italia (where on his debut he won the classification reserved for the best youngster): Padovan won in Pescara in 1956, in Genoa in 1959, in Milan (the closing stage) in 1960. He was the longest running Giro stage winner. And two at the Tour: Rouen 1956, Bordeaux 1958. Third at Lombardia 1952, he raced for several years in Atala with teammates such as Luciano Pezzi, Loretto Petrucci and Alfredo Martini, before ending his career at Gazzola, Charly Gaul’s team.
