“Until August 11, we will have a wonderful experience at our UPB ecocampus, where orchids and flowers display natural exuberance, magic and beauty, accompanied by the color and freshness of fruits in special decorations of Colombian crafts and even from other countries,” said priest Diego Marulanda Díaz, general rector of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana.
During the inauguration, the “Best Orchid” award was given to Juan Felipe Posada Moreno, for the orchid “fragmipedium kovaki” and a special recognition was given to the company Ecuagenera, for its 30 years of active activity in the reproduction, conservation and promotion of orchids.
The exhibition also praised cyclist Rigoberto Urán Urán for his successful performance on the world’s roads and for raising the name of Colombia. The award was received by Juan David Aristizábal, General Manager of ¡Go Rigo go!, the athlete’s own brand. Rigoberto was unable to attend due to the birth of his third child.
UPB is the first university in Latin America to be certified carbon neutral. In addition, the 20 hectares of vegetation and foliage are home to 59 types of birds, mammals and other species of fauna.
“We have a commitment from the academy to a protective and environmentally friendly environment. We are a sustainable Ecocampus and committed to the efficient use of resources, the protection of the environment and the prevention of pollution on the planet,” stressed the rector.
Judging plants and orchids
To evaluate the orchids and flowers that are part of the exhibitions, the judges were divided into two teams: judging flowers and orchids at the national and international levels.
Each jury carefully reviews and compares the quality of the flowers in size, shape and arrangement to award the special prize to the best plant in the exhibition.
This Saturday, August 10, at 9:45 in the morning, the university will be the starting point for the 27th edition of the Classic and Antique Car Parade of the Flower Fair. More than 350 cars from ten cities in the country will participate in the caravan.
“Exotic Colombia” is made possible through an alliance between Botánica Ltda., a company with more than 30 years of experience, and UPB, a university institution with 88 years of experience in higher education, scientific research, and comprehensive academic training.
