The most decorated volleyball coach in the world, Nikolay Karpol, plans to retire in 12 months.
“I’m thinking of quitting my job,” commented the 86-year-old legendary coach, whose career in “Uralochka” lasted 54 seasons.
During his coaching career as a coach of the national team of the Soviet Union, and then of Russia, Nikolay Karpol won the Olympic Games twice (1980 and 1988), the World Championship once (1990) and the European Championship seven times (1979 , 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 1999 and 2001).
He led “Uralochka” to the title in the championship of the former USSR 11 times and in the championship of Russia another 14 times.
“Do I have a dream? I would like our volleyball to return to its previous positions,” commented the coach, who will celebrate his next birthday on May 1.
