Pixar Animation Studios has released the trailer for their first original series “Won or Lost.”

The first original series from Pixar Animation Studios, it presents the intertwined stories of eight different characters who each prepare in their own way for a big championship game of softball (a cousin sport of baseball): “the unsure kids, their parents too involved and even a referee in love,” it is announced.
Each episode highlights the point of view of one of them and how they really feel about this encounter “with incredibly funny, very moving and uniquely animated perspectives”, according to the description from the studio behind “Finding Nemo”, “The Incredibles”, “Ratatouille”, “WALL-E”, “Up There”, “Toy Story”, “Rebelle”, “Vice-versa” , “Coco”, Toy or even “Soul.”
Unveiled this Thursday, the trailer reveals how everyone’s dreams and anxieties are transcribed in a colorful animation style, like drops of sweat who start talking to a child who is very stressed at the idea of return to the field.
Softball was ‘the perfect backdrop’
The series is directed and written by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates – who also serve as executive producers. According to Michael Yates, the idea of highlighting different points of view was born from their daily lives at Pixar. “Carrie and I were office mates on ‘Toy Story 4,’” he said in a statement. “We were both writers on the film and we talked about a lot of things that were happening in the film, as well as what was happening in the world – current events, news. We always had different reactions or different interpretations of the same meeting. One of us said: ‘It went very well!’ and the other: ‘No! It was horrible, what are you talking about?’ We realized that our own experiences that we share with the public change our perception of an event. We wanted to tell a story that illustrates all of this,” he explained.
“I played softball when I was younger,” Carrie Hobson said in a statement. “Inspired by this experience, we thought softball was the perfect backdrop for the series. There are so many facets to playing a sport: it can bring out the best and worst in a person; the calmest person can lose their temper. And when it comes to winning and losing, consequences are nothing, and yet, they are everything. We really felt like it was the best area for the themes we loved.”
“Won or Lose”, in which Will Forte lends his voice to Dan (the coach) in the original version, will be broadcast on Disney+ from February 19, 2025.
