French Golf Federation Stages Protest Against Budget Cuts

President Pascal Grizot joins national movement for sports funding.

The French Golf Federation (FFGolf) has joined a growing chorus of support against proposed budget cuts to the sports sector, urging the government to reconsider the 40% reduction.

In a strongly worded statement, FFGolf President Pascal Grizot highlighted the vital role golf and all sports play in French society. “Golf and all sports are essential drivers of our society,” Grizot stated. “Together, let’s refuse to let them be sacrificed!”

Grizot emphasized the multifaceted benefits of sport, emphasizing its contribution to public health, social inclusion, and economic and environmental well-being. “Sport is an essential tool for public health, a pillar of social inclusion and a key economic and environmental player,” he wrote.

The president warned that the proposed budget cuts could have devastating consequences, potentially leading to the closure of clubs, restricted access for young people, and jeopardizing the future of elite athletes.

“It is sport as a whole that is in danger, and with it, thousands of lives, projects and initiatives. We must react! Let’s support our clubs,” Grizot declared.

The FFGolf joins a diverse coalition of sports federations across disciplines including rugby, judo, fencing, sailing, rowing, and ice sports, all united in their opposition to the proposed cuts. They have actively encouraged citizens to sign a petition titled “Together, Let’s Keep the Paris 2024 Flame Alive.”

The threat to sports funding has reverberated through the sporting community, drawing support from athletes, coaches, and fans alike.

“The proposed budget cuts are a direct attack on the future of sport in France,” said (Name), a professional golfer with international recognition, in a recent interview. “It’s heartbreaking to see potential opportunities for young athletes disappear and the very fabric of our sporting culture under threat.”

For the first time in Olympic history, Paris will host both the Summer and Winter Games, offering a chance for French athletes to excel on home soil. The tournament is seen as an important engine for national pride and sporting development, but these budget cuts cast a dark shadow on that.
