Last weekend, the CAJA RURAL-ZAMORA team began its participation in the Spanish judo cup circuit in the junior category, achieving two meritorious diplomas in the Spanish Cup of Galicia, held in Ourense. The team was represented by two promising young Judo Morales athletes, Miriam Silvares and Elena Bahamonde, who demonstrated their talent and perseverance on the tatami.
The competition started on Friday with the weigh-in and accreditation without any problems, leaving everything ready for the main event on Saturday. Miriam Silvares, in the -52 kg category, started off on the right foot, winning her first fights and advancing safely to the semi-finals. However, a small mistake in that phase cost her a place in the final, as she was immobilised by her rival. Despite the defeat, Silvares fought for bronze in the repechage, finally finishing in fourth position. This result earned her a diploma and important points that place her in the top 10 of the national ranking.
For her part, Elena Bahamonde, a cadet competitor and regular in the -44 kg category, had to face the disadvantage of fighting in the -48 kg category, since her usual weight does not exist in the junior category. Even so, Bahamonde showed a great level in the fights, also reaching the semi-finals and repeating her teammate’s path to the fight for bronze, where she finished in fourth place. Like Silvares, Bahamonde returned with a diploma and points that position her in the national ranking.
The CAJA RURAL-ZAMORA team returns from Galicia with good feelings and the satisfaction of having successfully started its journey in the Junior Spanish Cup, already looking towards the next events on the calendar.
