Évreux Secures Pro B Survival with Triumphant Road Wins
Évreux’s Road to Salvation
After losing two key games in April due to ‘financial problems,’ Évreux faced an uphill battle to maintain its Pro B status. However, the club mounted a remarkable comeback, securing its survival with a game to spare.
“If the ALM Évreux had owed its maintenance in Pro B to the disappearance of the metropolitans 92 in 2023-2024, it was on the ground that the Norman club went to pick it up in 2024-2025.”
Two Crucial Victories in the South
Évreux’s resurrection was sparked by two tough away wins in the South. The first came at the end of April against Fos Provence. The second and decisive victory was secured on Friday, May 9, against Hyères-Toulon. This win not only sealed Évreux’s place in Pro B but also condemned Chartres and Fos Provence to relegation to NM1.
Évreux’s Dominant Performance against HTV
Facing a confident HTV team, already assured of its maintenance in Pro B, Évreux stormed to a commanding 17-point lead (37-54) by halftime. Despite HTV’s spirited fightback, Évreux remained composed, led by a powerful interior duo of necessity Mariveri – Ouédraogo (31 points and 20 rebounds) and a rear pair of Day – Angloma (37 points). The Norman club held on for an 82-92 victory.
Chartres and Fos Provence: The Fallen Giants
With Évreux securing its future, Chartres and Fos Provence were left fighting for their Pro B status. However, Chartres’ hopes were dashed after a 69-75 loss to Vichy, while Fos Provence’s 2023-2024 season ended disastrously, with a 82-92 defeat to Évreux, sealing their relegation to NM1.
Fos Provence’s Tumultuous Season
Just two years ago, Fos Provence was competing in the Betclic Elite league. However, a series of poor results and setbacks have seen them relegated to NM1, marking a tumultuous journey for the club.
Évreux’s Miraculous Turnaround
After battling financial issues and the threat of relegation, Évreux’s late-season surge was nothing short of miraculous. The club’s turnaround is a testament to their resilience and dedication to the sport. With two victories under their belt in the South, Évreux has weathered the storm and secured its Pro B status for another season.
Did you know?
Fun Fact: This is not the first time Évreux has faced adversity. In the 2021-22 season, the club narrowly avoided relegation, finishing just above the drop zone.
What’s Next for Évreux?
With the Pro B status secured, Évreux will now look to build on this momentum and push for a higher finish in the league next season. The club will hope to retain their key players and attract new talent to mount a serious challenge in the Pro B league.
