Babar Azam suddenly quit the captaincy of Pakistan. He left the leadership citing the reason that he wants to focus on batting. But Pakistani media has said otherwise. They claim that Babar left the leadership after being angry with the head coach of the country’s ODI and T20 formats, Gary Kersten.

After the last ODI World Cup, Babar suddenly withdrew from the captaincy of the three formats of Pakistan. After that, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that he took the leadership of the white ball. However, after taking charge of the team, he could not do much with the bat.

Quoting a PCB official, the country’s media reported that Naqvi asked the coaches for a report from the board due to Pakistan’s failure in the T20 World Cup. And the two coaches Azhar Mahmud and Karsten put the entire responsibility of the failure in the World Cup on the shoulders of Babar. This is why Babar got angry.

The PCB official told Pakistani media, ‘Babar is not satisfied with the report of Karsten and the assistant coach. He felt that the entire responsibility was placed on him alone. He got angry and didn’t want to be the captain anymore. Babar told everything to Naqvi.’

Pacer Shaheen Afridi was Pakistan’s T20 and ODI captain before Babar. Again, the PCB may give him the responsibility for Babar’s resignation. However, as the captaincy was taken away after one series, it remains to be seen whether the Pakistani pacer will want to take the lead again.
