new York – After reaching the quarterfinals at the US Open, Alexander Zverev made it clear about a potential injury to his right foot. In 3:6, 6:1, 6:2, 6:2 against American Brandon Nakashima, the 2021 Olympic tennis champion slipped his foot in the fourth set and suffered a slight limp. “I did something strange and twisted my knee a little bit. But everything is fine, there’s nothing to worry about,” said Zverev after the match.

At the 2022 French Open, Zverev suffered a serious ankle injury, underwent surgery and was out for several months.

Like at Wimbledon against Fritz – with one difference

At the Grand Slam tournament in New York, the 27-year-old from Hamburg will now face US champion Taylor Fritz, who lost in the 16th Wimbledon tournament this season. At the time, Zverev was struggling with a knee injury from the previous match. “Now that I’m healthy, that’s a big difference,” he said.

By reaching the quarterfinals at the US Open, Zverev also managed to enter the ATP Finals for the top eight tennis champions of the season in Turin in mid-November. The professional body ATP announced this after the match. Only Jannik Sinner from Italy has achieved this feat.
