The announcement from ATP and WTA: we begin in the team event that will kick off the 2025 season from 27 December to 5 January in Perth and Sydney. Player or captain may ask for 60 seconds to consult on strategy
Tactical time outs will be allowed in the next United Cup. The announcement came from the ATP and WTA, which will allow time outs in the mixed doubles event that will open the season between national teams. The new rule will allow a player or captain to request a 60-second time-out to consult on strategy by pressing a large red buzzer installed in the pitchside team area.

The time out can only be requested during the serve, not between the first and second serves, with a maximum of use and not for singles matches. “Time-outs mark a stoppage of play, an opportunity for teams to discuss tactics and strategy and potentially change the dynamics of a match,” said Stephen Farrow, United Cup director. “We don’t see the now to see how the best tennis players in the world and their teams will use this new tool,” he explained. The 18-team United Cup will kick off the 2025 season from December 27 to January 5 in Perth and Sydney and will serve to prepare for the Australian Open in Melbourne, the first Grand Slam tournament.
