(cba) Tennis Second game, second draw – the TV Osterath men remain unbeaten in the Lower Rhine League winter season after the 3-3 draw at Rochusclub Düsseldorf, but are still waiting for their first win. They missed this by the narrowest of margins. In the last match of the day, the brothers Freek and Ben van Donselaar unfortunately lost out to Mika Berghaus/Sven Thiergard 5:7, 6:3, 9:11. “It was very bitter, but in the end we can live with the point,” said coach Luis Elias.
In the singles, Juriaan Bol (6:2, 6:2 against Win Steveker) and Freek van Donselaar (6:3, 6:0 against Hermann Gertmann) were successful for his team. Ben van Donselaar (4:6, 2:6 against Thiergard), however, lost his match, as did Patrick Elias, who gave up against Berghaus – weakened by a cold – with a score of 3:6, 2:3. In the doubles, he mobilized his last strength and, alongside Bol, brought his team into a 3-2 lead with a 6:3, 6:4 win against Steveker/Baum. “Unfortunately, Niels van der Sijs, who was supposed to start in third place, was unavailable at short notice. Otherwise we would almost certainly have won the game,” said Elias.
Volleyball State league team SG Osterath/TuSA ended the year successfully. At ART Düsseldorf II, coach Lars Wolpers’ team effortlessly won 3-0 and thus stayed in touch with Verberger TV. At the end of the first half of the season, they are two points behind the leaders. After a clear 25:13 in the first set, the Düsseldorf team got into the game better, but the Osterathers also won the next two rounds confidently with 21:15 and 25:19. The OTV ladies continue to march towards promotion in the district class. They won at DJK Kleinenbroich 3-0 (25:22, 25:10, 25:18) and are still at the top of the table without losing any points.
Badminton TSV Meerbusch II is once again in sporting trouble after two 3:5 defeats at FC Langenfeld and against TuS Viersen. Only their better match record currently separates them from the relegation places. In the first game, Thorge Siemer, Helena Vollmer/Lena Laak and Takashi Nikawadori/Christoph Tietz won the three points; against Viersen, Uwe Siemens, Helena Vollmer and Laak/Vollmer were successful for the blue-yellow. In the South district class, BSC Büderich remains second after a 5:3 win against TSV Norf. At the top is TSV III, who won 7-1 against VfR Fischeln II.
