Laughter Yoga Unites Communities in Southern Italy
World Laughter Day Celebrations in San Pantaleone
In the heart of the Reggio area, the small yet lively town of San Pantaleone hosted an extraordinary event that brought together people from diverse backgrounds, all united by a shared pursuit of joy and camaraderie. The event, organized by the Pro Loco San Lorenzo, celebrated World Laughter Day, marking the anniversary of the global laughter movement’s inception in 1995.
“Peace begins with us, and it is contagious. Those who are happy is at peace and laugh produces joy. Those who are at peace does not promote war. I believe that spreading peace, joy and kindness is a duty of anyone. And it is also our mission: always working for good,” said Francesca Pizzi, President of Pro Loco San Lorenzo 2024.
Under the guidance of Anna Elisa Meliadò, a renowned yoga of laughter teacher, participants engaged in laughter exercises that transcended barriers and fostered a sense of community.
The Initiatives Behind the Event
The Pro Loco San Lorenzo, a young yet dynamic association founded in late 2024, played a pivotal role in organizing the event. With the support of the Municipality of San Lorenzo and its extraordinary commissioner, Francesco Picone, the Pro Loco transformed the central Piazza Fontana into a welcoming and lively space.
The event received widespread support from various local associations, including Calabriamiale, Kalabria Experience, and the National Yoga of Laughter Institute. The Terra Madre Association also contributed by creating a ‘bivouac area’ for those who wished to relax amidst the lush greenery and clear blue skies.
The Laughter Therapy Experience
“Laughter is a gesture of opening, of trust towards others. It is a disarming act, devoid of defenses, which cancels social distances. Not surprisingly, genuine laughter are often irresistible and contagious.”
Looking Ahead
The Pro Loco San Lorenzo 2024 remains dedicated to fostering community engagement and growth, with a commitment to hosting more events that promote peace, joy, and kindness throughout the Tuccio valley.
