PARIS (Reuters) – Taiwan’s Li Yang and Wang Chi-lin were crowned Olympic badminton men’s doubles champions on Sunday, beating China’s Liang Weiqing and Wang Chang 21-17 18-21 21-19 at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena in Paris. The last to hold.
The Taiwanese couple, who won gold in Tokyo and are childhood friends, fell to the ground screaming as they won an emotional game despite competing in the Olympics as Chinese Taipei.
Lee threw his racket in the air as the pair received a standing ovation from the Taiwanese fans.
Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Woy Yick 16-21 22-20 21-19 took home bronze in an hour-long battle against Kim Astrup and Denmark’s Anders Rasmussen, who destroyed 34 yachts and filled with hypnotic performances.
