Swiss Muriel Furrer, who was taking part in the women’s Junior World Cycling Championships race today, has been hospitalized in “very critical conditions” after a fall. The UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) announced this in a statement, specifying that the girl is under constant monitoring by both the UCI and the Zurich 2024 organizing committee.

The girl, who fell for “reasons yet to be determined”, was urgently transported to the hospital by helicopter ambulance. In the press release, the UCI reports that Furrer suffered “a serious head injury” and hence the seriousness of her condition. “At the moment there are no confirmed facts on how the accident occurred – the press release continues – Investigations are underway by the competent authorities. For this reason it will not be possible to provide further information until further notice”.
