It has been about a month since the heads of state of the Sahel Alliance (AES) held their
first summit in Niger. This August 1, 2024 in Ouagadougou in front of the body
diplomatic, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and
Burkinabe Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, reported on the
conclusions of the summit. It was his role to pass on the information to the partners
so that they can in turn relay it to their respective countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs explained that one of the conclusions of the
summit is the creation of the AES confederation. “The President of Mali, Colonel Assimi Goita has been designated as the current president of the confederation and Burkina Faso will host the first parliamentary session,” he added. Minister Traoré also informed the diplomats of the creation of an investment bank and the establishment of a stabilization fund. “The heads of state mainly discussed strategies to combat insecurity and development issues.
We now want the partnerships to be readjusted taking into account
of the dynamics of creating the confederation. The confederation is open to
“all of them,” stressed Jean Marie Traoré.
For the dean of ambassadors Youssef Slaoui, also ambassador of
Morocco, this meeting is part of the tradition of openness and
mutual consultation of Burkina Faso which characterizes diplomatic relations
between Burkina Faso and other countries. “The sub-region has experienced developments. It is
within the framework of the dialogue we can have the information we need to
support the development of the sub-region,” he said.
