The Burkinabè State handed over a batch of equipment consisting of rolling logistics and medical-technical equipment worth more than 5 billion CFA francs to the Ministry of Health, on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, in Ouagadougou.
The level of equipment of the technical platforms of the operating theaters of the country’s university hospitals (CHU) and regional hospitals (CHR) will be high in the days to come for the happiness of the Burkinabè. The Ministry of Health indeed received a large batch of rolling and medical technical equipment consisting of 10 ambulances, 39 pick-ups, 625 motorcycles, operating room and resuscitation equipment and 83 laboratory equipment, on December 31, 2024, in Ouagadougou.
This batch of equipment intended to equip hospitals and intensify disease prevention actions through community interventions and closer care to populations was handed over by the Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.
“This large batch of materials handed over by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, concretizes his commitment to significantly and sustainably improving the healthcare offering in Burkina,” he declared. And this specifically responds to two major objectives: improving the quality of care offered to Burkinabè citizens throughout the national territory and that of the working conditions of health workers who “despite the difficulties are fighting in a spirit of sacrifice so that all Burkinabè people can benefit from quality health care,” he continued.
Furthermore, he specified that this equipment was acquired for 5 billion 800 million CFA francs, 90% of which was financed by the State budget, that is to say, the Burkinabè taxpayer. On this, he invited the Minister in charge of health to take all useful measures so that the agents who will benefit from it take the greatest care so that the impact is not only significant and above all lasting.
A sigh of relief
According to the general director of the Society for Management of Biomedical Equipment and Maintenance of Burkina (SOGEMAB), doctor lieutenant-colonel, Eric Martial Nao,
the importance of this acquisition also lies in reducing the number of brands of devices in Burkinabe hospitals. “This acquisition was grouped and this made it possible to meet the challenge of reducing the number of brands of devices in our hospitals.
Of all the equipment acquired, the average number of brands recorded is around 4 and this makes maintenance easier,” explained the doctor. Regarding the arrangements made for proper maintenance of this equipment, Mr. Nao indicated that it is planned that this equipment will be maintained for three years and the spare parts have already been acquired at the same time as the equipment. .
“We have staff capable of carrying out maintenance and they have seen their capabilities reinforced by the brand experts from whom we acquired,” he reassured. For her part, the regional health director of the Center-South, Anata Doro, expressed her joy at having benefited from an ambulance, motorcycles and vehicles in the sense that they will allow them to improve the health indicators in their region.
“It’s a sigh of relief. The ambulance will greatly contribute to improving the quality of care, especially in terms of medical evacuations, and will also reduce the level of emergencies, because this will allow the Manga CHR, which is currently being operationalized, to manage emergency cases on site. And, if there is a major case, we can reach Ouagadougou in complete safety with our patient,” she said.
