Speyer / Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. To conclude the season in the 1st Judo Bundesliga South for men, JSV Speyer will host BC Karlsruhe on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Despite the geographical proximity, the guest from the other side of the Rhine is a rather unknown quantity for the Speyer team. The Karlsruhe team was promoted from the 2nd Bundesliga last season. “We used to have a few matches in the 2nd league that were always hard-fought, but that was many years ago and both teams have completely changed personnel-wise since then,” explains JSV team manager Michael Görgen-Sprau. However, the newcomer has established itself respectably in the top division and has picked up three points with a win against Erlangen and a draw against Offenbach. This puts the BCK in fifth place in the table, directly behind the JSV – but three points behind.
In terms of the table, nothing will change for Speyer – the current fourth place in the table will remain regardless of the result on Saturday. Nevertheless, Speyer is motivated to remain undefeated in the third home match of the season and to end the season with a win. Basically the same squad will be available as last week, with the exception of Onise Bughadze. The Georgian heavyweight is absent due to an international competition. Whether Franz Haettich, who was injured on the last day of the fight, can fight will be decided at short notice. With David Riedl returning to the team, however, the JSV has another option this time in the weight class up to 90 kilograms.
Despite renewed summer temperatures and the Old Town Festival, the JSV men are hoping for a good and atmospheric backdrop in the Judomaxx for their last fight of the season.
