A first look at the concept that anticipates the premium D-SUV, arriving in 2025. Muscular shapes and off-road looks
First European appearance for the Smart #5, the premium D-segment SUV arriving in spring 2025. The variant for the Chinese market was made known in August, while now we have had the opportunity to closely observe the concept which anticipates the 100% electric car for our continent. Although pre-orders are only a few months away, it is still a concept car. However, the Smart staff with whom we had the opportunity to speak confirmed that the definitive version for Europe will be very similar to the show car seen in the studio in Stuttgart, differentiating itself first of all for a more street-oriented and less extreme connotation than what can be perceived from the photos.
Smart #5: dimensions
—
Compared to conceptwhose images are shown in this article, the Smart #5 definitive for Europe will be devoid of tires so markedly off-road, just as there will be no ropes that extend between the bumper and windshield or the additional lights on the roof. For the rest, by superimposing what we saw firsthand in Stuttgart with what Smart revealed for the Chinese market, the European version should look a lot like a hypothetical union of the two variants. For sure it will be over 4.70 meters long with a wheelbase of 2.90: practicality, comfort and spaciousness should therefore not be missing on board. And the rear doors they will not open against the windas happens on the concept.

Smart #5: il design
—
Externally, the Smart #5 clearly distinguishes itself from its smaller sisters #1 and #3 not only for its decidedly more impressive dimensions, but for its more muscular profile and massive, greater height, even from the ground, and, overall, a design deliberately halfway between an SUV and an off-road vehicle. Smart wants the new stylistic course beveled and rounded shapes where there should be edges: and there they are, well accentuated both on the front bumper and in the bonnet area. Where they are most evident is perhaps at the rear: here the decidedly arched rear window and the bumpers give it a design boxy softened. Even the design of the mirrors reflects the general philosophy. Peering inside, the geometries of the internal look follow the trend of the external one, with air vents, storage compartments and two 13″ digital screens each recalling the external shapes.

Smart #5: technique
—
For the European variant, awaiting approval, the technical data are yet to be confirmed. We know for sure that he will have the800 Volt architecture and a large capacity battery, up to 100 kWh, to guarantee up to 740 km of autonomy. It is equipped with an ultra-fast charging function which allows you to go from 10 to 80% charge (i.e. recover 500 km of autonomy) in just 15 minutes. The engine powers have not been made official, but looking at the eastern market we know that for China there are two steps: 579 e 637 Cv. Will they also be confirmed for Europe?
