SM Caen Ends Winless Streak with Victory in Coupe de France

After a series of ten consecutive winless games in Ligue 2, SM Caen found their winning form again in the seventh round of the Coupe de France. They secured a convincing 3-0 victory against Loon-Plage on Saturday.

A victory is never insignificant, especially after enduring ten matches without one. Even though it was against a Regional 1 team, Stade Malherbe Caen managed to avoid any surprises at Loon-Plage on Saturday, November 18, 2023, by securing a 3-0 win. Despite an early scare when Yannis Clementia had to make a crucial save, Caen remained largely untroubled by their opponents, who play four divisions below them. This victory propels them into the eighth round of the Coupe de France.

Romain Thomas and Godson Kyeremeh Shine as Scorers

In the dying minutes of the first half, Caen was awarded a penalty after a handball resulting from a strike by Godson Kyeremeh. Mickaël Le Bihan converted the penalty, giving Caen the lead (1-0, 45′). They extended their advantage shortly after the second half began, with Romain Thomas scoring a header from a corner (2-0, 46′).

Godson Kyeremeh sealed the victory in the second half, capitalizing on a well-executed pass from Quentin Daubin (3-0, 66′).

A Positive Outcome Despite Facing a Lower Division Team

Despite missing several key players, including Alex Mendy, Yoann Court, Anthony Mandréa, and Ali Abdi, Caen managed to avoid any pitfalls. Valentin Henry and Bilal Brahimi also had the opportunity to gain valuable playing time. The central defensive partnership of Romain Thomas and Syam Ben Youssef, with Emmanuel Ntim on the bench, remained solid throughout the match. This victory provides a much-needed boost before their upcoming match against Angers, who currently sit second in the Ligue 2 standings, on Monday, November 27, 2023. It will undoubtedly be a different challenge altogether…
