Re-elected for a new 4-year term as head of the Burkinabè National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOS), Singapinda Jean Yaméogo has ambitions for the mother of Burkinabe federal structures.

Your feelings after this plebiscite?

Any man in such a situation can only be happy. I had the trust of the sporting world. I can only say thank you to him. Confidence allows man to evolve and go further.

What will be President Yaméogo’s major projects for the next 4 years?

I don’t like to announce what hasn’t started. I wouldn’t want to promise something that won’t be honored and that will be a problem in the sporting world. I can only tell you that we are going to strengthen the technical capacities and governance of the Federations. We will improve the daily experience of Federations and athletes. We will ensure that our living environment in which we operate is accessible to all and that cleanliness can be required. We will also strengthen our external relations. As you know, I am the president of zone 3. We try to keep the peace between the committee and the IOC. The construction sites are enormous. But as no agreement has been signed, I don’t want to venture out. Otherwise, for example, we intend to awaken the elite school in the courtyard of the Olympic committee.

Tell us a little about this elite school that you plan to entrust to Hugues Fabrice Zango

Basically, we built the committee building to recruit high-performance athletes from the 6th grade so that they could progress to the final year. In the meantime, the means failed us. Obtaining permits for athletes was difficult. So we couldn’t open it. This means that their classes have been transformed into training places for federations, notably weightlifting, athletics, combat sports, etc. Hugues Fabrice Zango told me that he could help his little brothers in this sense. Together we will raise the funds to revive the school. We are in the process of negotiating with partners so that in addition to these classrooms, the school can operate normally.

You also announced the creation of several commissions. What does this answer?

In reality, people struggle to integrate sports structures. That’s not the main thing. The coaches and technicians that we train are proposed by the commissions. And if you have to integrate all these people into an executive office, you will never find yourself. There are executive offices which have 25 members. But, at each meeting, those present rarely exceed 6. Which is not good. On the other hand, the commissions can meet peacefully and get us out of the projects. Especially at committee level, we speak in terms of projects. In terms of Olympic solidarity, if you manage to set up a viable project, you are financed to the tune of 30,000 dollars, often 10,000. It is in this sense that we have supported the baptismal font of the commissions so that they bring us projects to submit to the IOC.

Today, the CNOSB has a fairly significant infrastructure asset. But the observation is that there is a fairly significant deterioration of these infrastructures. Are you going to consider renovating them?

When you have enough people under your thumb, it’s often difficult to control everything. The infrastructures in question are intended for sports federations. Everyone comes to do their activities and afterward, there is no cleaning or maintenance.
This is why we have created a commission that will take care of it.
The rental of the room will now be used for the maintenance of the infrastructure. Because, if we don’t change our minds, the partners who helped us build it will be discouraged when they see its state.
