Sergio García Returns to DP World Tour, Eyes Ryder Cup and Open Championship

ERKERTH, Spain (AP) — Sergio García is making his return to the DP World Tour after a three-year absence, and the 42-year-old Spaniard has already set his sights on returning to the Ryder Cup and competing in the Open Championship.

Return to DP World Tour

After headlines were made last week following his win at the LIV Golf Invitational-Dallas, García confirmed he will play in the Spain Masters at Centro Nacional Golf=(itemprop=”url” href=”https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centro_Nacional_de_Golf_Real_Club_de_la_Pineda_de_Salobre_Golf>)Real Club de la Pineda de Salobre Golf> starting on Thursday.

“I’m excited to announce that I’ll be playing in the next DP World Tour event, the Spain Masters,” García said in a statement (“I’m delighted to be back” ” quotes). “It’s a great feeling to be back on tour and I can’t wait to play in front of the home crowd.”

Targeting Ryder Cup and Open Championship

García’s return comes as no surprise, particularly with this year’s Ryder Cup taking place at Rome’s Marco Simone Golf and Country Club from September 29 to October 1.

Winning a position on the European team isn’t easy, but “El Niño” believes he has what it takes:

“To get into the Ryder Cup team, I know I have to win positions. I have to play well and win tournaments,” García added (“Win the position with play” quotes).

Moreover, García has mentioned the Open Championship at St Andrews as another high-priory:

García, a three-time champion in the European Tour, knows what it takes to win, and he plans to prove it once again on the greens (“A golfer first and foremost” ” quotes).

Earlier this year, golf legend Gary Player advisors suggested García’s return could pose a significant threat to Rory McIlroy’s reign (“solid player” ” quotes).
