Sergio García Renews LIV Golf Contract, Eyes More Titles

Garcia: “I’m Happy to Stay with LIV Golf”

Veteran golfer Sergio García is thrilled to remain with LIV Golf for another four years, as the Spaniard hopes to maintain his competitive edge and continue pursuing titles at the age of 46.

I’m content to have signed on for four more years. I want to keep proving myself and showing that I can still compete at a high level. Sergio García

LIV Golf Expansion and Changes

García, who recently celebrated his 46th birthday, will kick off the 2023 LIV Golf season in Riad, Saudi Arabia, on February 4, after renewing his contract with the league late last year. As captain of the Fireballs team, García will again be joined by Spanish golfer Josele Ballester, with two new teammates – Luis Masaveu and David Puig – rounding out the squad.

García Welcomes Spanish Lineup

García welcomed the all-Spanish roster, saying, “We’re excited to have a hundred percent Spanish team. We’re proud to be all from Spain, and I’m sure we’ll have a fantastic year together.”

LIV Golf’s Tournament Format Change

LIV Golf has introduced changes for the upcoming season, including lengthening tournaments from 54 to 72 holes. García, who won the Masters in 2017, believes this alteration will benefit his team and potentially help LIV Golf events earn recognition from the Official World Golf Ranking.

Brooks Koepka’s Departure and DP World Tour Conflicts

Addressing the departure of fellow LIV Golf player Brooks Koepka, García expressed respect for the American’s decision and refused to judge it. He also hopes for the resolution of conflicts between LIV Golf and the DP World Tour, which have resulted in multimillion-dollar fines for participants.

Looking Ahead

With his renewed contract, García aims to maintain his youthful spirit and continue playing at the highest level. As he enters his fifth season with LIV Golf, the veteran golfer is hungry for more success in the sport he loves.

Q: What drew you to renew with LIV Golf?

A: I’m comfortable here, and I think there’s still a lot of potential for me to achieve more. Plus, I enjoy the challenge of continuing to compete at a high level.
