Korean Badminton’s Golden Boys: Seo Seung-jae & Kim Won-ho Rule Men’s Doubles

In the realm of badminton, there’s a new power duo making waves, and their impact is far from ankles-level – we’re talking about Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho. These ‘golden boys’ have locked down the men’s doubles scene, leaving their competitors to play catch-up.

The Paris Showdown

First, let’s rewind to the Paris Olympics where all eyes were on the men’s doubles final. This wasn’t just any final; it was a battle of the titans, featuring none other than Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho. Their opponents? None other than the World No. 2, but that didn’t seem to faze our Korean dynamos. Despite vomiting due to nerves, Kim Won-ho dug deep and pulled off a thrilling victory, with Seo Seung-jae tirelessly chasing shuttles across the court.

A Phenix-like Return

After a much-needed two-year break in 2017-2018, Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho are back and stronger than ever. This dynamic duo has been on a tear this year, claiming six championship trophies and sweeping three out of the four Super 1000 tournaments organized by the BWF. Don’t just take our word for it; Kim Won-ho himself admits, “I’ve grown so much since then, learning and maturing through every big tournament.”

Seo Seung-jae agrees, crediting their success to focusing solely on men’s doubles this year. “The health burden has been greatly reduced, and we can focus more on our game,” he says.

Paying it Forward

With great success comes great responsibility, and our golden boys are proving to be model athletes. After securing personal sponsorship deals with Yonex, the pair decided to donate a portion of their earnings back to the Korean Badminton Association. Their goal? To support and nurture the next generation of athletes.

Before they gear up for their next challenge, the champions indulged in a well-deserved celebration. Seo Seung-jae treated his wife to a birthday dinner, while Kim Won-ho enjoyed a seafood feast by the beach.
