Ripert Patrice, a former French soldier, was tried in Dakar for insulting remarks towards the Senegalese president. The septuagenarian would have described the head of state as “unbalanced” and “mentally ill”, after the announcement of a possible review of the French military presence in Senegal.

He also reportedly declared that Senegal was a “cursed” country. During his hearing, he denied certain comments and apologized. The court ultimately acquitted him with the benefit of the doubt.
