Scottie Scheffler Wins Olympic Gold in Men’s Golf with Flawless Final Round, Detry and Schauffele Tie for Ninth Place

With his total of 272, 12 under par, Detry finished in ninth place, tied with reigning American champion Xander Schauffele, seven shots behind the winner, Scottie Scheffler. The American won because of a flawless final round, nine under par, after nine birdies. He thus gained five places in the rankings to win gold.

Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood took silver by finishing by one stroke. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama completed the podium with two shots. The leader before the final round, Spain’s Jon Rah dropped to fifth place after a final round of a low par.

Dumont de Chassart had a more complicated round with an 8 (+4) on the first hole. He made birdies on holes N.3, 7, 9, 12 and 13, conceded bogeys on 4, 10 and 17 to reach the clubhouse in 73 shots, two over par. He finished with a total of 283 (-1).
