Milan is in fourth place. Zero-emission shared micromobility is popular among commuters in European capitals. Lime publishes usage data for the first half of 2024

Paris wins gold, Rome silver and Berlin bronze. Lime, a leading zero-emission shared micromobility company, has released data on the use of its vehicles recorded in the first six months of 2024 in some of the main European cities in which it operates, in particular Madrid, Copenhagen, Rome, Milan, Paris, Berlin and Lisbon. In the ranking of the top five cities Paris occupies the top step of the podium with the highest number of kilometres travelled, a good 14 million. Roma earns second place with 5 million kilometers traveled, third position for Berlin with almost 4 million kilometers under its belt. The fourth box is occupied by Milano with 2.5 million kilometers, while Lisbon stops in fifth place with just over one million kilometers. The research also tried to shed light on the motivations that lead users to choose sustainable micromobility for city travel. Also in terms of use, shared bicycles and scooters are the best option for the commuting and intermodality, in particular for Lisbon with 22% and for Madrid with 20%. They represent a moment of socialization during free time for 25% of Parisians and 24% of Madrid residents, while, in general, with regard to offering an alternative and more sustainable type of transport than private cars, the cities of Paris and Lisbon are the most virtuous with 13%.

Always according to the data on the use of its own means released by Lime, Roma users have avoided over half a million car trips by choosing to travel by shared transport, while Milano well over a million cars were removed from traffic. The users of these two cities have achieved a total saving of over 4,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Finally, regarding the reasons that drive the use of shared electric micromobility in Italy, 23% of Romans choose zero-emission bicycles and scooters for commuting, a figure that reaches 33% in Milan. This is followed by travel related to conviviality, such as reaching cafรฉs or restaurants, 18%, motivations associated with sustainability, 17%, and finally for reasons related to shopping, 10%.
