Savannah De Bock: A Journey from Prodigy to Professional Golfer
A Love for Golf and the Green
Savannah de Bock’s passion for golf began at a young age, blossoming into a formidable talent that set her on a path to professional greatness. Herparents met on a golf course, and it seems the sport was always in her blood.
At age nine, she earned her first handicap at nine and a half hours. Growing up in Ecaussinnes, Belgium, she quickly rose to embody the promise of a promising future on the greens, leaving other hobbies such as horse riding, theater, violin, drawing, music theory, and dance behind.
At 12, I decided to make it my job.
Parents’ Influence and Success
Savannah’s talent was nurtured by her parents, Laurent and Nathalie. They followed her successes during her formative years, including her groundbreaking win in a 2022 amateur European tournament.
Her spectacular early wins inside and outside her homeland established her as an elite golfer and paved the way for her claiming her right place as a dominant force on the American collegiate golf scene.
Crossing the Atlantic: From Belgium to the USA
Savannah’s journey to the United States began with an early love for English immersion since kindergarten and continued through her education.
“I always succeeded in school, where I was in English immersion, which helped me for the future. I live in English. I dream in English. I eat in English,” she exclaimed.
With the support of Afgolf and an impeccable command of English, she made her way to the USA in pursuit of both academic and golfing excellence. Amidst these journeys, Savannah’s life and trajectory were deeply influenced by Patrick Hanauer of Sport and Studies, which facilitated her enrollment in a top American university.
Solheim Cup Success
Savannah’s achievement in becoming one of the youngest and most successful amateur golfers to win the Solheim Cup – a feat which led the European team to an unprecedented double win in consecutive years. The victories in 2021 and 2023 were soon punctuated by a landmark stumbling block when Bennett de Bock, her coach, left Eastern Michigan University at the end of one competitive season.
“I have been here for 18 months. I come back a little during the summer. Daily life is not always simple. You become an adult overnight. I live in an apartment with three girls. We divide the roles. We have a big refectory to eat, but we can also prepare dishes in our kitchen. This life has never scared me.”
A Multifaceted Talent
Savannah’s passion for golf is surpassed only by her ambition. She pursues dual master’s degrees: one in journalism and the other in creative writing. She shared with us an example of her journalistic prowess as she spoke about a piece she had written.
“Yes, for my lessons, I have just written an article on the basis of a press release which reported the death of a student during a baptism. I was too fan of my text that I will send you.”
Amateur to Professional: The Road Ahead
Despite her early success, Savannah de Bock maintains her amateur status, which she will hold for the next two years. She aims to become a professional golfer, one day playing on the LPGA Tour. She is passionate about writing and hopes to create a impact as a journalist.
“Become a professional and be able to play on the LPGA. Golf remains my biggest talent, but I want to be good at a thousand other areas…I would like to write articles on scientific discoveries…She never turns in slow motion. With Savannah de Bock, life goes at high speed.”
