RAIA: Dubai-based club Sanguem Warriors once again dominated the badminton courts at the Warriors Cup 24, an all-Goans badminton tournament, organised by Karama 32 Warriors, in Dubai, UAE.
Adil Khan of Sanguem Warriors triumphed over Karama 32 Warriors’ shuttler Abdul Rehman to clinch the men’s singles title. In the semi-finals, Adil Khan defeated Jalal Shaikh while Abdul Rehman overcame defending champion Aslam Shaikh.
Vishlesha Kankonkar of Chandwada FC maintained her supremacy in the women’s singles category, defending her title by defeating Ninoshka Fernandes in the final. In the semi-finals, Vishlesha defeated Samia Khan of Sanguem Warriors, whereas Ninoshka Fernandes prevailed against Arfana Shaikh of Karama 32 Warriors.
The men’s doubles category witnessed yet another title defence, as Adil Khan and Aslam Shaikh defeated Jalal Shaikh and Ramez Kakodkar in the final.
In the women’s doubles category, the coveted title went to Karama 32 Warriors’ pair, Farah Shaikh and Arfana Shaikh, who defeated Vishlesha Kankonkar and Sheza Khan in the final.
The mixed doubles category saw an all-Sanguem Warriors showdown, with Adil Khan and Samia Khan defeating their compatriots Aslam Shaikh and Shayeen Shaikh in the final.
This year introduced a new category, Legends Singles, where Bobby emerged victorious over Asif Shaikh in the final.
The second edition of the Warriors Cup saw a total of 65 Goans participating across various categories. The event, held at Engage Sports Academy, was attended by over 300 Goans.
