Sandiego Ophthalmology Clinic, 36 years old with good vision

The figures achieved by the clinic during these ten years of operation at its headquarters are long-standing: 900,000 ophthalmological consultations, more than 1,080,000 diagnostic examinations and 170,000 surgeries.

“40% of our patients are cared for by their EPS and the other 60% are individuals, or have policies or prepaid medicine. Among others, we serve more than 520,000 patients from entities such as Sura. This is an attraction for professionals, since they can combine their private practice with institutional care,” commented Francisco Javier Londoño Posada, manager of the Sandiego Ophthalmology Clinic.

With 33,000 square meters, the seven-story building has 12 operating rooms, 15 institutional offices and 100 private offices, and nearly 300 parking spaces. A decade ago, the construction and provision of the structure, one of the largest on the continent for visual health, cost close to $65,000 million.

“In our three headquarters: El Poblado, Llanogrande and the city of Cúcuta we generate more than 600 direct and indirect jobs. “We have specialists in uveology and ophthalmic immunology, a branch with little availability of care in Colombia that is responsible for treating inflammation of the middle layer of the eye,” explained the manager.

At its main headquarters, the IPS houses different optometry and ophthalmology services such as retina, cornea, glaucoma, neuro ophthalmology, plastics, oncology and ophthalmological pediatrics and immunology, among others. Likewise, it has consolidated itself in other sense organs, with 22 dermatologists, 13 otorhinolaryngologists and Clivem, a clinic specialized in vertigo and balance.

“We have a team of top-level professionals, but also advanced technological equipment such as the Lasik laser and the Femtosecond, for refractive surgeries; as well as the most modern ocular electrodiagnostic equipment in Medellín, which offers greater precision and the only Zeiss Visufit to guarantee through nine cameras. “This way we achieve excellent precision in measurement and better adaptation of the lens and frame formulas for each patient,” said Londoño Posada.

With a history of 36 years, it has established itself as a reference for visual health in Antioquia, Colombia and Latin America. Its prestige has positioned it as a reference eye clinic for hundreds of patients from Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire, who annually arrive in Medellín with the hope of improving their visual conditions.

“We are also a training and continuing education center. We have agreements with different higher education institutions and we have a research center that allows us to update ourselves on issues related to visual health,” highlighted the manager of the institution.

Located on El Poblado Avenue, in front of the Premium Plaza shopping center, the clinic has the convergence of different ophthalmology specialists, which allows it to provide a complete and highly supportive service to the patients who come to its facilities.

The history of this clinic began more than three decades ago in the center of Medellín in a modest office where two ophthalmologists attended, an adventure with a lot of vision.
