Dozens of French Football Players and Educators Sanctioned for Sports Betting
In a press release published on Thursday evening, the Professional Football League announced the sanctioning of approximately sixty French football players and educators due to concerns related to sports betting. The decisions range from a five-match suspension to a fine of 500 euros. Among those affected are players from lower divisions, such as Yoann Court from Caen, who received a fixed match suspension and a fine of 3000 euros, and Louis Mafouta from Amiens, who received a three-match suspension and a fine of 3000 euros. Baptiste Aloé, who was trained by OM and is currently playing for Nancy, received a fine of 2000 euros.

“During the meetings held on October 11, 18, 25, and 31, 2023, as well as November 8 and 15, 2023, the Disciplinary Commission decided to impose sanctions on players and educators of professional clubs who violated the ban on sports betting for the 2022/2023 season, as stipulated by the Sports Code. This marks the fifteenth case investigated in collaboration with the ANJ and the FDJ since the 2013/2014 season. These offenses were committed despite the continuous awareness and information campaigns conducted by the LFP and the UNFP in collaboration with the clubs. The Commission emphasizes that football players are strictly prohibited from betting on any football competitions, both national and international.”
After hearing the players and educators or reviewing their letters of explanation, the Commission has imposed the following sanctions:
