Draw in the derby and safety in the bag for Itas Mutua Baseball Softball Club Rovigo. While the girls’ softball team earned an incredible promotion to Serie A1, the senior red and blue baseball team, which has been in the top national series for a few seasons now, also achieved its seasonal goal, which adds to the historic playoff qualification achieved at the beginning of the summer. On Sunday, the team from Rovigo split the spoils with Padova, leader of group G of the Poule Salvezza, thus earning the mathematical certainty of also playing in Serie A 2025. The double challenge saw Itas Mutua prevail in game one with a score of 4-3 and the home team respond in game two with a score of 8-4.
A slow start for coach Soto Diaz’s boys, who immediately concede three points in the first defensive shift. Fortunately, a double by Buin allows them to immediately recover ground thanks to two passes to the plate. The excellent rotation on the mound between Marelli, Crepaldi and Giacomo Taschin allows the Polesani to raise the barricades and no longer concede anything to the Paduans. However, the red and blue attack also remains dry for four innings. Until the decisive sixth, which sees Rovigo score twice thanks to a double by Exposito and a single by Lorenzo Taschin for the definitive overtaking that sets the final score at 4-3.
In game two, played in the afternoon, there was still a lot of balance in the first part of the match. Itas Mutua lines up Javier Diaz on the mound, then replaced by Pietrogrande, Frigato and Bottazzi. The first point arrives only in the fourth inning and is scored by Padova. The challenge remains very close until the sixth inning, with the defenses systematically having the better of the attacks. Then, however, the game lights up with a pyrotechnic 4-3 for Rovigo in the seventh inning that sets the temporary 4-4. Everything suggests a point-to-point finale. Instead, only Padova manages to bring other players to home plate: one in the eighth inning and three in the ninth. Rovigo remains dry and the final 8-4 closes the double confrontation in perfect parity.
“It’s another great result that adds to a truly historic weekend for our colours – underlines the rossoblù president Alessandro Boniolo – Remaining in Serie A was the minimum objective of our season, but our boys deserve the biggest applause especially for the amazing qualification to the preliminary rounds of the playoffsachieved after the victory of the spring qualifying round. Now the focus is on the next season, which will see us with both Senior teams protagonists in the two top national championships. A pride of the rossoblù but also of the entire community of Rovigo”.
The risk of relegation now only concerns Godo and Athletics Bologna.
