Ryder Cup Captain, Bradley: “Called for a Bigger Cause than Playing”
Bradley’s Journey to Ryder Cup Captaincy
Bradley, winner of eight titles on the PGA Tour, including the PGA Championship in 2011, has taken on the role of Ryder Cup captain with a unique perspective. “I feel like I was called for a bigger cause, to help players prepare and play at the highest level,” he said.
His story could have been different. A talented skier in his youth, Bradley balanced wins on the golf course with victories on the icy tracks of Vermont. It was the melting snow that dictated his golf practice, sparking a race against time each season. But with scholarship offers pouring in, he turned his back on skis, focusing on golf full-time.
Bradley’s Connection to the Ryder Cup
Bradley’s history with the Ryder Cup isn’t entirely triumphant. A member of the U.S. team in 2012, he was part of the side that squandered a 10-6 lead on the final day, losing to Europe in the “Miracle at Medinah.” In 2014, he experienced another loss.
“I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to win,” Bradley said. “I’ve also seen what it’s like to fall short. I think understanding both sides will help me guide our team this time around.”
Bradley: A Fervent Sports Fan
Off the course, Bradley is a passionate supporter of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. His first visit to Bethpage Black was as a student, unaware he would return as Ryder Cup captain seeking redemption.
