Russian Baseball Legend Pavel Akishev Passes Away at 42

In a somber New Year’s update, the Russian Baseball and Softball Federation has reported the passing of renowned baseball player Pavel Akishev. The multiple national champion and former member of the Russian national baseball team would have turned 43 years old on January 30.

“This is not the kind of news we would like to come out with at the end of the New Year holidays, but life is multifaceted and it dictates its own rules. We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Pavel Alexandrovich,” the federation said.

Akishev’s Baseball Career

  • Akishev was a student of the Moscow club “Moskvich” and played as a member of the “Tornado” team.
  • He was a part of the Russian national baseball team until 2010.

Farewell to the athlete will take place on January 14 in the memorial hall at the morgue of the Podolsk Regional Clinical Hospital. The funeral service and burial will take place in Chekhov.

Akishev’s passing follows the recent demise of Ulyana Semyonova, a two-time Olympic basketball champion and a member of the USSR national team. Semyonova, who was 73, leaves behind an impressive legacy of three world titles and ten European Championship wins.
