Paris 2024 Paralympic athletics gold medalist Rushdie Rushdie is looking to win another title and possibly a record at the next edition of the biggest sporting event in Los Angeles 2028.
The 33-year-old Rushdi won the men’s shot put (F55) title with a 12.40m mark to add a second Paralympic title to his career after Rio de Janeiro 2016.
“I was really prepared this year for maybe an even better result, but I didn’t succeed in doing everything right. And the weather maybe didn’t allow me much because it was cold and rainy. I want if I get to the next Olympics, if we’re alive and healthy, to make a better result than the current one and to win with a Paralympic record, for example,” said the competitor at a press conference where he was awarded the number 1 sportsman of the month of August in the traditional poll of the “Bulgaria” press club.
The award ceremony was attended by his personal trainer Radostin Todorov and Ruzhdi’s mother Saime Mustafa.
“Thank you for everything. For the second time I have been awarded athlete of the month, this shows that we are in the right direction and motivates me for better successes and results. I wish you health and no injuries so that we can train harder, to have better preparation so that there are results. I also want to thank my coach, because I started from scratch, and he taught me absolutely everything – about discipline, about sports. I am here today because of his instructions I’ve listened to it,” added the champion.
“We hope to participate in at least one more Paralympics. We don’t just want to participate, but to achieve some serious results. Our training is really hard, Rushdi lifts very serious weights, which is risky, but in this profession there is always a risk, no we can predict, but we hope to make at least one more cycle”, commented Radostin Todorov.
