Sports Weekend Wrap-up: April 19-20
Rugged Rugby Rivalries
The rugby pitches were ablaze with intense clashes this weekend. In a cruel turn of events, two teams from Saint-Raphaël shared the spoils but met differing fates. While Decazeville secured fourth place in their hen, casting them into the play-offs against Casteljaloux, their counterparts are left to rue missed opportunities.
On a brighter note, US Sévérac’s neighbors clinched a hard-fought 14-9 victory against Mende in the Occitanie Cup.
Rodez continued their dominance in Federal 3, romping home 87-17 against Lacapelle Marival. With 80 points, 16 wins, and just one draw and defeat, they’ve topped their pool. They’ll face Montluçon in the 32nd final’s first leg next Sunday.
Badminton Bash in Millau
The Som badminton club played host to their 15th annual tournament at the Puits-de-Calès gymnasium. With over 170 players competing in 151 games, the event drew 40 Millavois from the club’s 110 licensees. Leonard Tomas, the newly elected president, remarked, “It’s an opportunity for youngsters to experience their first competition”
.
Trailblazing in Aubrac
The trail runners took center stage in Aubrac, where the 18th Edition of Trans Aubrac unfolded. In the 109km ultra-marathon, François Planque crossed the line in 10 hours, 27 minutes, and 30 seconds, with Julien Lefranc and Ludovic Wintrebert trailing behind. In the women’s category, Sophie Cottin took the honors, finishing at 1:18 p.m.
Other sports like handball, basketball, football, and tennis enjoyed some well-deserved rest but will be back in action soon. Mark your calendars for Som Tennis’ TMC U12 event on April 26.
