Ron Foxcroft, the entrepreneur behind the revolutionary Fox 40 pealess whistle, will receive the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) prestigious Hugh Campbell Distinguished Leadership Award. The announcement was made today, recognizing Foxcroft’s decades of dedication to supporting officiating and contributing to the growth of the game.

The award will be presented at the inaugural CFL Coach of the Year Celebration on March 25 at The Westin Edmonton.

Beyond the Whistle: A Commitment to Officiating

Foxcroft’s impact extends far beyond his iconic invention, which is used in countless CFL games. He has consistently championed the role of officials, ensuring their contributions are recognized and appreciated.

For over 30 years, Foxcroft has hosted an annual luncheon honoring Grey Cup officials, presenting each member with a ceremonial ring to acknowledge their achievement.

A History of Leadership

Foxcroft’s involvement with the CFL also includes serving as the co-chair of the 84th Grey Cup in Hamilton, Ontario. He has consistently offered his business expertise and insights to League executives and Commissioners, contributing to the overall development of the CFL.

The Hugh Campbell Distinguished Leadership Award, named after the ten-time Grey Cup champion, has been presented since 2006 to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the CFL. Previous recipients include Wally Buono, Norman Kwong, Bob Ackles, and John Hufnagel.

The CFL Coach of the Year Celebration will also recognize either Corey Mace of the Saskatchewan Roughriders or Jason Maas of the Montreal Alouettes for their outstanding performances during the 2025 season. The League will also present the inaugural Ted Goveia Football Operations Award.
