In the final kilometres, Roglic set a hellish pace, leaving all his rivals behind except for a small group of climbers.

The 2024 Vuelta a España has begun its ascent towards the great summits with an intense day at Pico Villuercas, the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, true to his style, won victory in the queen stage of the day, demonstrating overwhelming superiority in the final climb.

The stage, marked by a very high pace from the first kilometres, quickly selected the peloton. Breakaway attempts followed one another, but none managed to withstand the pressure of the favourites. In the final kilometres, Roglic imposed a hellish pace, dropping all his rivals except for a small group of climbers.

Today’s stage: a day for sprinters

After the demanding mountain stage, the Vuelta moves to Andalusia for a stage more favourable to sprinters. The riders will cover 170 kilometres between Fuente del Maestre and Seville, with a predominantly flat route that will culminate in a mass sprint on the streets of the Andalusian capital.

It will be an opportunity for the fastest men in the peloton to show their potential and take the stage win.

However, the presence of some steep slopes in the first part of the stage could cause movement in the peloton and lead to a more open day than expected.
