Family Completes Late Son’s Bucket List, Inspires Others, Establishes Charity

Llanbedrog, Gwynedd, Wales – In a heart-warming and inspiring journey, the Evans family has undertaken an incredible challenge, completing their late son Robin’s bucket list and setting up a charity in his memory. Ten years after Robin’s tragic death in a workplace accident in China, his family has turned his dreams into reality, ticking off 38 out of 58 experiences on his list while raising funds and supporting young sportspeople.

The Evans family, including parents Gareth and Menai and elder son Guto, has visited iconic locations such as Machu Picchu, the Galapagos Islands, and Iguazu Falls, as well as completing unusual challenges like bungee jumping and walking the Wales Coastal Path. They transformed their grief into an enduring tribute to Robin by establishing the Cofio Robin charity, which has awarded over £100,000 in funding to young sportsmen and women since 2018.

In a recent triumph, Guto completed an Ironman event in Tallinn, Estonia, on what would have been Robin’s 30th birthday, combining the family’s mission to finish the bucket list with their charity work. Their journey has been a beacon of hope and inspiration for others, proving that even in the face of unimaginable loss, dreams can be realized, and memorials can become something truly impactful.

In September 2015, a tragic accident took the life of Robin Evans, just 20 years old. But his spirit lives on, inspiring his family to embark on an extraordinary journey, ‘Cofio Robin’ (Remember Robin), turning his bucket list into a global adventure and fueling a sports charity that’s changing lives.

Yearning For The World

To cope with their loss, the Evans family from Llanbedrog, Gwynedd, discovered Robin’s bucket list – 58 places to see and experiences to have. They vowed to complete what he could not.

“We found so many ticked-off items, it was unjust he couldn’t get to all of them,” said Gareth Evans, Robin’s father. “We decided to pick up where he left off.”

Ticking Off The World Map

The family started with Peru, tackling Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands. This year, they’re off to Brazil and Argentina to tick off the Iguazu Falls.

But it’s not all glam travel. The Guinness brewery in Dublin and Stonehenge have also been checked off the list. Next up? The Taj Mahal, planned for spring 2023.

Keeping Robin’s Spirit Alive

Guto Evans, Robin’s elder brother, says finding the list was “really emotional… We maintain that connection wherever we go.”

Sports Tech To Charity

Robin worked in sports tech for Hawk-Eye. After his passing, the family established ‘Cofio Robin’, offering funding to aspiring sportspeople under 25 in Gwynedd and Conwy.

In seven years, they’ve raised and distributed over £100,000, empowering young athletes like swimming sensation, Aled Davies, and Wales rugby sevens star, Luke coffer.

Uniting Bucket Lists & Charity

This summer, Guto completed an Ironman in Tallinn, Estonia, uniting his brother’s bucket list with the charity. He trained for nine months, crossing the finish line in 12 hours 53 minutes, with his family cheering him on.

“It meant we could talk about growing up, stay positive, and look forward to the event celebrating what would have been Robin’s 30th birthday,” Guto shared.

‘One And Done’, But Not For Long

Ask him if he’d do another Ironman? “Absolutely not. But our next bucket list adventure? Kilimanjaro, February 2023,” he laughs.

The Legacy Continues

The Evans family plans to keep ticking off the bucket list and supporting sportspeople. Robin might not be with them physically, but his spirit permeates every adventure and act of giving.

*”He’s with us, making every step and every stroke count,”_ said Gareth.
