In a joint effort to improve environmental practices in the educational sector, the principals of the 229 Educational Institutions of the District of Medellín signed the Pact for Sustainability. The event, held at the Metropolitan Technological Institute (ITM), had the participation of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area and the Secretariats of Education, Environment and Health of Medellín.

During the meeting, key topics such as the National Environmental Policy, comprehensive solid waste management, the circular economy and the correct disposal of waste were discussed. These measures seek to prevent public health problems in institutions, promote environmental education and generate lasting change in waste management. The objective is for institutions to adopt these practices in the short, medium and long term with the support of the authorities.

It is expected that this model will expand to the 339 schools in the nine municipalities of the Aburrá Valley, in order to consolidate a great Metropolitan Pact for Environmental Sustainability and strengthen environmental culture among future generations.
