Radio Burkina celebrated its 65th anniversary on Thursday, November 5, 2024, in Ouagadougou.
Since its creation in 1959, Radio Burkina has established itself as a pillar of information, culture and social cohesion. She celebrated her rosewood wedding on Thursday November 5, 2024, on the theme: “RTB Radio, 65 years for a united, resilient and stronger society”. According to the Director General of RTB, Ateridar Galip Somé, “RTB has gone through decades remaining faithful to its public service mission, while adapting to technological developments and societal challenges”.
He recalled that Radio Burkina is a key player in the national media space, contributing to the promotion of cultural values and the influence of Burkina internationally. This 65th anniversary marks a pause to revisit this rich history and chart ambitious perspectives, he said. The sponsor of the ceremony, Baba Hama, praised the commitment and determination of the men and women who forged the identity of Radio Burkina. “Despite the sometimes precarious conditions, they were able to demonstrate resilience and innovation, helping to forge a media which is today a beacon for our Nation,” said Mr. Hama.
The Minister of State for Communication, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, highlighted the impact of this media in the daily lives of Burkinabè people. “Radio Burkina has been a witness and actor in the history of Burkina. She knew how to adapt to challenges
and continue to inform, educate and entertain our fellow citizens,” he said. He also highlighted the strategic role of the RTB in the current struggle for national sovereignty and territorial pacification.
National broadcasting is called upon to adapt to technological changes and strengthen its role as a vector of resilience and national unity. On the occasion of this anniversary, RTB launched a major innovation: filmed radio. This initiative, according to the Minister of Communication, demonstrates the institution’s desire to diversify its content and meet the expectations of new generations, while remaining faithful to its identity.
The presence of the Malian and Nigerien delegations reinforced the pan-African scope of the event. In this sense, Baba Hama stressed: “solidarity between our peoples is essential. Together, we must continue to build media that reflect our identities and defend our common interests.” Between retrospective and ambition, this celebration recalled the importance of Radio Burkina in building a resilient society. The challenges ahead are numerous, but with a committed team and innovative projects, RTB seems ready to meet them.
