Abitibi-Témiscamingue Athletes Shine at the Quebec Games with Nine Medals
Blainville, QC – Athletes representing the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region showcased impressive talent at the recent Quebec Games, bringing home a total of nine medals. The delegation, comprised of 3,000 athletes aged 12 to 17, competed against the best young athletes in the province.
Medal Count and Sporting Success
The Abitibi-Témiscamingue delegation secured four gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals. Six of these medals were won during the first block of competition, with an additional three earned in the second block.
Success was spread across five different sports, including badminton, Olympic boxing, weightlifting, judo, and cross-country skiing. Weightlifting and cross-country skiing proved particularly fruitful, with each sport contributing three medals to the regional total.
Regional Ranking and Future Outlook
The region currently stands at the 16th position in the overall medal standings. While a commendable effort, this represents a slight decrease from their performance at the 2024 Games in Sherbrooke, where they secured 20 medals. This shift resulted in a drop in the regional rankings, moving from 80 to 68.
