Jim Teale, one of the founders of the Puerto Rico Golf Association (PRGA), has died at the age of 102.
Born in Ohio and raised in Minnesota, Teale moved to Puerto Rico in 1949, after World War II, where he served in United States Navy.
In Puerto Rico, Teale established himself as a businessman. He was one of the pioneers of Puerto Rican golf and a recognized figure in this sport. In 1954 he was one of the founders of the PRGA. He has remained active in recent years participating and organizing many charity tournaments.
The PRGA confirmed the death in a publication on the social network Facebook. At this time, no details have been released about the cause of death.

“Jim was more than a teacher; He is a guiding force in our lives and the growth of golf here in Puerto Rico. “His commitment to the game was unwavering, always encouraging us to develop the game responsibly.”said PRGA president Sidney Wolf in written statements.
“Jim, along with his beloved wife Consuelo, was a constant presence and never missed an opportunity to celebrate the joys and victories of our community. Their shared love for golf and unwavering support was always one a cherished part of our memories. While Jim will be greatly missed, his vision and love of the game will continue to inspire us. “His legacy lives on in every shot, in every round and in the hearts of all had the privilege of knowing him,” added Wolf.
Teale was inducted, along with a former player Juan “Chi-Chi” Rodríguezinto the PRGA Hall of Fame in 1978 as part of the first class. Rodríguez also died this month, on August 8.
The news was also disclosed by the candidate for the resident police station for the Popular Democratic Party, Pablo Jose Hernandez. Teale is the husband of Hernandez’s maternal grandmother.
“Jim was born in Minnesota, fought for democracy in World War II, moved to Puerto Rico in 1948, built a successful company, and founded the Puerto Rico Golf Association. After being widowed, he married my grandmother in 2004 and was my grandfather for the last 20 years. We will miss him very much,” Hernández wrote on Facebook.
Teale is survived by his wife Consuelo, two daughters, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
