La France to Face Tigres in Liga MX Final Phase
Puebla secures its spot in the Apertura 2023 League by earning six crucial points this week, three on the field and three in the courts.
CAS Decision Saves Puebla’s Liguilla Hopes
If it weren’t for the Court of Sports Arbitration (CAS) ruling, Puebla would have entered Day 17 with 19 points. With their victory against Cruz Azul, they would have reached 22 points, which would not have been enough to qualify directly for Liguilla.
Thanks to the CAS decision, Puebla was awarded the three points they earned on the field against Tijuana, securing their final position in the seventh spot with 25 points.
Carbajal’s Strategy for Advancement
Ricardo Carbajal, Puebla’s coach, has decided not to accept the Play-in card and instead wait for the outcome of the match between Leon and Juarez to determine their advancement to the final stage of the tournament.
A Familiar Rival: Tigres
Puebla will now face Tigres, a team they have encountered twice before in the final phase. In the Verano 2001, Puebla had a chance to reach the semi-finals with an impressive 5-3 overall score. However, in the Clausura 2023 repechaje, Tigres emerged victorious with a 1-0 score.
